Mandatory License
FSSAI License:
Every food and beverage business in India, including mineral water factories, must obtain approval from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). This license shows that your unit complies with hygiene and safety regulations under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. There are three types of licenses depending on how much business you do each year – basic, state and central. Packaged drinking water falls under the “high-risk” category, so a basic license is often not enough.
BIS (ISI) License:
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) regulates the quality standards for packaged drinking water. Important standards include:
IS:14543 for packaged drinking water
IS:13428 for packaged natural mineral water
To get the ISI mark, the factory must pass strict inspection and water testing in recognized laboratories. This mark indicates that the water is safe and of good quality.
Trade License:
This license is issued by the local municipal office. It allows the mineral water plant to operate legally in that particular area. Without this license, the business cannot be run legally.
