How to get an NOC — step by step
- Identify who must issue it — the party with a potential objection (employer, bank, sponsor, developer, or authority).
- Put the request in writing, stating exactly what the NOC is for and any reference/visa/account numbers.
- Receive it on letterhead, signed and stamped, addressed to the relevant authority (“To Whom It May Concern” or a named department).
- Attest if required — some cross-emirate or official uses need attestation or translation.
- Submit it with your application before its validity lapses (request it close to when you need it).
NOC and the UAE Labour Law (job changes)
A frequent question is whether you still need an employer NOC to change jobs. Under Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 (in force since February 2022), an employer NOC is no longer legally required in most cases to move to a new employer once your contract ends or is terminated, and the old automatic labour ban was reformed. That said, individual employers and some free zones may still request an NOC contractually — always check your contract and your jurisdiction’s rules.
